Not every handcrafted creation is made in the same way.
Over recent decades, digital modelling, 3D technologies and standardised casting have become a common part of the production process in many jewellery workshops. Creations produced in this way are often presented as handcrafted jewellery, even though only the final stages of production are carried out by the hands of a master artisan.
Don Royal Nordic Jewelry preserves a different tradition of goldsmithing.
Traditional Goldsmithing
The foundation of our creative practice is traditional goldsmithing, in which each creation takes shape in the hands of a master artisan from its earliest formative stages. From the very beginning, the precious metal is shaped, adapted and refined using traditional goldsmithing methods, allowing each decision to be made throughout the creative process rather than defined in advance by a digital model.
Designed Around the Gemstone
We have chosen this creative principle because it best reflects our approach to natural gemstones. Each possesses its own proportions, optical properties, internal structure and character. We therefore believe that a creation should be designed around a specific gemstone, rather than the gemstone being adapted to a predetermined form.
Uniqueness
The uniqueness of natural gemstones also shapes the creative process itself. As no two coloured gemstones in nature are completely identical, no two Don Royal Nordic Jewelry creations are ever entirely alike. Even when the same design is recreated, each piece retains subtle nuances in proportion, its own individual character and the collective expression of the decisions made by the master artisan. This is not a matter of chance — it is the very nature of traditional goldsmithing.
Digital Technologies
In exceptional cases, when a design requested by a client requires exceptionally precise geometry, complex symmetry, intricate details or structural solutions that cannot be accurately achieved using traditional handcrafting methods alone, this is discussed before the order is accepted.
Digital modelling and 3D technologies may be employed only with the client's prior agreement. In such cases, the creation is no longer considered the result of traditional handcrafted goldsmithing, although its final assembly, gemstone setting and finishing are completed by the hands of a master artisan. The chosen production method is always clearly stated in the accompanying Don Royal Nordic Jewelry Report.
Precious Metals
Most of our creations are crafted in 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold, as well as 900-fineness platinum. For individual commissions, a creation may also be crafted in another precious-metal fineness selected by the client, provided that the chosen design and technical requirements allow it.
Palladium alloys are used in our white-gold and platinum creations, providing greater strength, natural whiteness, durability and exceptional aesthetic quality. Only nickel-free alloys are used throughout all of our creations.
